A six-run sixth inning proved to be too much to overcome as the Wills Point Tiger varsity baseball team lost to Mabank, 11-0, March 19. Carson LaJone led the Tigers with one hit in two at bats.
The Wills Point Tiger varsity boys’ track team finished fourth among 12 schools March 21 at the Avon Rice Relays hosted by Rains High School. Wills Point finished the meet with 53 points trailing first place Commerce with 88 points, second place Van with 62 points, and third place Mount Vernon with 58 points.
A total of 17 teams participated in the 2024 State Farm Wills Point Tennis Invitational March 20. The medalists for Wills Point in the event were as follows: Charleston Sanders/Carson LaJone, 1st place, boys ‘A’ singles.
In a battle of Van Zandt County rivals March 15, the Canton Eaglettes outlasted the visiting Wills Point Lady Tigers, 8-0, in Canton. The Eaglettes got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning after Rylee Busby hit into a fielder’s choice and the Lady Tigers committed an error, each leading to a run for Canton.
The Wills Point Tiger track and field program traveled to Malakoff March 6 to compete at the Tiger Relays. Wills Point placed second in the varsity boys’ division with 149 points, finishing behind Malakoff with 174 points, and ahead of Brownsboro with 128, Kerens with 68, Edgewood with 41, Cross Roads with 34 and Palmer with 20.
