BBQ FOR A CAUSE

Hope Pregnancy Center held a BBQ fundraiser on June 16, at the Pregnancy Center catered by BBQ & A Prayer. The event was designed for patrons to donate needed items to the Center and also have a chance to have some great barbeque. Donations still needed include: Johnson & Johnson baby toiletries, Dr. Brown’s bottles, bathing suits, clothes size 9 months to 2T, Amazon and Walmart gift cards. Photo by Britne Hammons

WILDLIFE ON THE MOVE

The Van Zandt County Library welcomed Wildlife on the Move on June 17. The presentation was part of the Van Zandt County Library Summer Reading program held every Friday at the library. There were 120 children and 84 adults who attended Friday’s program. Numerous animals were presented to the crowd including snakes, lizards, iguanas, a possum and more. MAGICAL BALLOON MAN MAKES MAGIC AT VZC LIBRARY

The Van Zandt County Library opened up their Summer Reading Program with Rob Holladay, also known as the Magical Balloon Man. There were 75 children and 60 adults attending the first program. “We hope to see these numbers growing,” stated VZC Librarians. The next Summer Reading Program will be held at 10 a.m. with performer Eric Brittingham with Wildlife on the Move. There were 10 children who received prizes as part of the Summer Reading Program. Those winners were Josie Reynolds, Jude Snyder, Emma Weeks, Jackson, David Blood, Ashlynn Macc, Violet, Audie Cooper, Kase and Tayler (some last names have been withheld.) June 10-11: The Wills Point Police Department will host its annual Back the Blue Benefit at Jack Lester Park. Participants in the Outlaw BBQ Association sanctioned cook-off that will begin preparations June 10 with cook’s choice dishes due by y 7:30 p.m. Turn in times for the following day will be as follows: jackpot beans, noon; chicken, 1 p.m.; pork spareribs, 2 p.m.; and brisket, 3 p.m. Awards announcements for the cook-off and trophy presentations will take place beginning at 4 p.m. Kids will have plenty to do throughout the day June 11 with bounce houses, sling shots, tug of war, kites, water balloons and more at the ready for them to enjoy. Other attractions at the daylong event will include a silent auction, K9 presentation featuring local handlers and a hometown car show.

Whitton Reunion cancelled The annual Whitton Community Reunion, scheduled for Sunday, June 5, has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled, organizers of the event stated. Food giveaway set East Oak Street Church of Christ will hold a food giveaway from 9 a.m.

May 19: “Halifax at War: The Story of a Bomber”, a documentary about one of the aircraft that cadets from the No. 1 British Flying Training School flew, will be shown at the BFTS Museum, 119 Silent Wings Blvd. in Terrell at 7 p.m. Viewing the film is free to the public.
